It’s remarkable how every once in a while a book grabs me and won’t let go until I reach the end. I love suspenseful mysteries that take unexpected twists and turns, and this one did not disappoint. It’s set in 1896 New York City, where Addie, a naive violinist, and Jess, a NY Times investigative reporter, are tumbled into a world of corruption and greed. Her father is nearly killed, she is abducted, and it’s his — the reporter’s — fault! And I had fallen in love with Jess and Addie early on, so I really appreciated Bristol taking the time to let me come to know them before the rug was pulled out from under them.
